I have 3 computers - Computer 1, connected behind Router A (a Linksys BEFSR41),
and Computers 2 and 3, connected behind Router B (a Linksys BEFSX41). Routers A
and B are connected as peers, to a hub connected to my DSL modem. All 3
computers are connected 100M Full Duplex.
I tested the various MSN Messenger clients, V6.2.0205, V7 Beta1, and V7 Beta2,
by transferring a standard 400K test file between each of the 3 computers, using
the various versions of MSN Messenger to do the transfer.
As a baseline, I transferred the test file between Computers 2 and 3 (thru the
LAN behind Router B), and regardless of which version of MSN Messenger was
loaded on either Computer 2 or 3, the file transfer took just a couple seconds
(not long enough to start a stopwatch with any accuracy).
Transferring the same test file, between Computer 1, and Computer 2 or 3 (thru
the two routers), with V6 MSN Messenger loaded on both computers, would take
maybe 5 - 10 seconds. With either V7 Beta1 or Beta2 loaded on either Computer
1, 2, or 3, however, transferring the test file between Computer 1, and Computer
2 or 3, would take close to 2 minutes.
Upon observing the advice in the MSN Messenger window "If you are experiencing a
slow transfer rate, click here to find out why", I would query the MSN Messenger
help database, which would reference a problem with UPnP connection thru my NAT
routers. Oddly though, this problem only occurs with MSN Messenger V7 Beta.
Has anyone observed any similar problems with Messenger V7 Beta?
