Automatic Updates being turned on is causing XP to stop responding during
shutdown. After loading SP2 my XP computer stops responding at shutdown. I
used MsConfig and found that Windows Automatic Updates (on Services tab) is
causing the problem. Once Automatic Updates is diabled in MsConfig, the
computer will shutdown normally.
I've also noticed that the computer will stop responding whenever I try to
visit the Microsoft Updates website. The computer also stops responding when
I try to open Automatic Updates from the Control Panel.

Can some help me solve my Automatic Updates problem?

Thanks

My computer was doing the same thing. Locked up on shutdown and when I
tried Automatic update. Turned out the problem was another program that I
had installed. It was AOL's Instant Access Control. Once I removed that
piece of garbage the computer shut down fine and I was able to do updates
again.
