View Full Version : XP SP2 Intermittent failing to reboot - I'm puzzled

I have a setup that I built it myself. Always worked flawlessly with SP1.
After a clean install of XP PRO SP2 CD it started to fail to reboot. I.E.
When I need to run another profile, I go to start/restart, it shuts down
properly, POST goes ok, the XP LOGO appears and I see "starting windows "
message running. And then, sundenly, just black screen and system hangs.
Sometimes it reboots, sometimes it just sits there and I have to do a hard
reset. Sometimes I have to hard reset for 6 or 7 times to get the system up &
running again. Oh, after the first failure, it shows that boot menu for safe
mode, etc. It goes on Safe Mode, no problem. I need help to isolate this
problem, there's no error showing on screen. My XP system is booting on a
RAID 0 config (2 80gb seagate) and a 3rd HD used as backup (80gb maxtor
partitioned in 5 partitions). Soemtimes, after recovering from hibernation, I
get the "delayed write failure on drive H:\$mft".. I am mentioning because it
may be related to my reboot problem. Forgive my bad english and any help will
be very appreciated. I can send more info if needed. Thanks in advance.

Did you perform a thorough check for viruses, Trojans and hijackers prior to
installing SP2?

Affirmative. Actually, it was a clean install, I built the RAID with two new
hard drives, nothing on them. I added the 3rd HD after the installation was
complete. I also run peridically Spybot S&D, AD-Aware and Hijack This, my
system is Clean. Thanks.

I am sorry to hear that VC..... unfortunatelly rolling back to SP1 is not an
option for me. At least I know it is not a problem with my rig only. thanks.

Bump is used on forums, when you don't get answers, so your post appears on
the top of the forum.
It does not work in here.
