View Full Version : How to completely blow away control panel network connections ?

I have a WiFi card that is failing, in a very strange way. TCP
doesn't see any APs. Netstumbler does.

I have an Xp/pro/SP1 laptop that I had working with my Orinoco
802.11 card. Recently it has stopped workling. The WiFi icon
(a) won't see any AP that I know to be nearby (ie other laptop
users are browsing the 'net) and (b) netstumbler sees every AP
anywhere in the neighborhood. Very strange.

Every time I unistall and re-PNP my wifi card I get a new "Wireless
Connection Number X" in ControlPanel/Network Connections. Even though
I delete the icon, delete the device in (device manager), and reboot I
always see a new, higher number when I plug the card in. It does say
"discovering new hardware" and goes thru PNP. I'm up to 7, now.

I suspect that that the TCP stack binding is broken. I recall circa NT
4 there was a screen that showed how the protocol stack was oredered
and allowed you to change it. I can't find it in XP.

I'd like to reinstall the hardware drivers and TCP.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks.
