Microsoft Outlook 2002 hangs in XP Pro SP2

I'm having problems with Outlook not responding for 5 mins and the same
problem with messenger also. I have done the following to fix the problem:

1. Disabled the MS Firewall
2. I have no antivirus apps

If you have no antivirus installed, that would explain a lot. I can't
imagine why you thought having no antivirus would be A Good Thing, but
it is most definitely not. Clean up your machine.

Since you do not have an antivirus program installed, start by running
TrendMicro's Sysclean. You should get all tools and updates from a
different computer that is known to be clean, has a good Internet
connection, and a cd burner. Delete all Temporary and Temporary
Internet Files first.

TrendMicro's Sysclean is an extensive antivirus tool which has the
advantage of not needing to be installed. It requires two parts - the
scanning engine and the virus pattern files. Delete all Temporary and
Temporary Internet Files before running the program.

1. Create a new folder on your Desktop or the C: drive named something
useful like "Sysclean".
2. Go here and download the two parts of the program to that folder:

The pattern files will be zipped - extract them with your unzipper (like
WinZip) or if you have XP, you can just open the folder. You need to
put the extracted files in the Sysclean folder you made.

3. Restart your computer in Safe Mode. Get into Safe Mode by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up to get to the proper
menu.
4. Go to the Sysclean folder you made and double-click on sysclean.com.
Start the scan. After the scan is finished, look at the log. You may
need to make a note of where any viruses were found if they were not
able to be removed so you can manually delete them.

Now get a full-featured av, install it, update it, and do a thorough
scan in Safe Mode. Afterwards, continue your cleaning by scanning for
non-viral malware with the free programs Ad-aware and Spybot Search &
Destroy. Get these program, install them, update them, and scan for
malware in Safe Mode.

This did not solve the problem. I have no virus apps running at this time
because I wanted to see if that was the problem and it is not. I also used
your solution just to check and no viruses have been found. I have
antispyware applications running also. It has to be linked to my outlook,
hotmail in IE, and msn messenger all these applications hang for 3 mins
before responding.

Your original post gave the impression that you had no antivirus
installed. Therefore, my advice was based on that. What changed between
the time things worked and the time they didn't?

I removed SP2 and that did not solve the problem. Then I removed MSN
Messenger and that did not solved the problem. Then I removed outlook and
that did not solve the problem. Now when I use IE for the first time it
hangs for 2 minutes. Any suggestions. I check for reponses in the morning.

PS I used FireFox and it works with no problems.

I'm sorry, but there just isn't enough information to give you a
specific answer. What changed between the time things worked and the
time they didn't? I'd say you have a problem with DNS, but if Firefox
works then that isn't it. You say you are 100% malware-free, so that
isn't it. Since Firefox works, you don't have a hardware problem.
Without actually looking at the machine, I can't tell you. You may want
to call a local professional to come and do an on-site. Or try a System
Restore to when things worked.
