Disk Cleanup

When I run Disk Cleanup, there are 250,483k showing on
compress files. After I tell it to clean, there still
remains the same files, but others such as recyling bin
are done.
How do I get Disk Cleanup back to the way it used to be?
I was able to compress files before.
