Pagefile isn't "installed" it's created on running XP. the "Installation"
lives in C:\WINNT (or whatever drive you're using)

I always take the pagefile into consideration when installing XP - as it =
defaults to 1.5 x the amount of RAM installed and therefore will take up =
HD/partition space - as you say - after XP has been run.

The default installation path is <drive>:\WINDOWS not WINNT.
You would only have a WINNT as the %systemroot% if you had upgraded from
Windows 2000.

The page file is located on the drive where you tell XP to create it. =
It doesn't have to be on the same drive as the OS as is the case with my =
installation of XP Pro.

There are some reasons for having the page file on the boot drive.

Perhaps the most important, or at least the most commonly used, is for
the "system failure memory dump". When this dump is created, Windows
will use the page file on the boot drive to hold the dump and will
then rename the file. This is much faster than creating a new file to
hold the memory dump, and time is of the essence when these errors
occur.

If there is no page file on the boot drive then the system failure
memory dump file cannot be created. This may or may not be important,
depending on the circumstances.

The "ideal" situation is to have the main page file on a separate
physical hard drive (not just a different partition on the same drive)
and a second small page file on the boot drive. In this circumstance
the page file on the boot drive can be set to something like 10 mb
minimum 50 mb maximum. And if it is done this way then the System
Failure Memory Dump parameters should be changed from "compelete
memory dump" to one of the smaller options.

Good luck

Greetings --

Or if you performed a custom installation and picked that name.
The OS works just as well if you name the directory "Bob" or Ralph,"
for that matter. ;-}

From the Desktop: My Computer > C . Highlight the WINDOWS folder and select
Properties, either from the File menu or the menu from a right click on the
folder. The next box will show the size of your particular installation.

Pagefile is a very important part of the XP as well as the Documents and
Settings folder that is also part of the XP install. How large is your
Documents and Settings folder? The OP wanted to know the size of XP, I would
think that the "running" size would be what they were curious about.
