I have installed many MS patches and none have shown up
in the Add/remove of the Control Panel. I heard that
patch #811493 may be causing my system slow down. Viewing
the installation history at MS update site shows it was
installed on my system. Question: Why doesn't the
updates and patches show in my ADD/REMOVE window?

Something's goofy. Open Add or Remove and scroll to the bottom. I have 14
(fourteen) patches and hotfixes there. I believe I installed 811493, and
then removed it using Add or Remove, but that was a couple weeks ago, so I
might be mistaken.
Others are embedded in MS programs and are irreversible, and so do not
appear in Add or Remove. Some of these can be verified by checking the
"About" choice under Help, i.e., in IE you should have a couple listed
there. I have 813489 and 330994 listed there, as well as SP1.
Check Add or Remove again.

Try pressing function key (F5)a couple of times. This is
a refresh key. It often happens on my system that only
part of items installed are shown initially.
As below the patches are at the bottom of the list.
