I have been running XP Home version since it was released
with no problems at all. About 2-3 weeks ago it started
taking a long time to load programs like Internet
explorer, Outlook express and others. I will sometimes
wait 2 minutes after I select them before they open. I
also am having alot of problems with IE
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2. It will stop responding quite often.
All of these problems seem to have started about the time
that I received the auto update #'s Q817287 and 811493.
It will also take 2-3 minutes to wake up after the screen
saver has been on. I have checked my drive and defrag'ed
it. I am running an AMD 1800+ with 512Meg of ddr memory.
The computer just seems to operate at about half the
speed of what it did before.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall=20
Windows XP Hoxfix (SP2) Q811493. Apparently, this
particular Hoxfix is troublesome with some antivirus software.
Microsoft is reportedly looking into this issue.
Read the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for details:
You May Experience Performance Issues After You Install the 811493
(MS03-013) Package on Your Windows XP SP1-Based Computer

811493 causes this problem. MS is aware of it and working to fix it.
Recommendation is to go to add/remove in control panel, find and highlite
811493 and uninstall it.
