Why does Excel create automatic files under naming conventions like 1EC41000

I would be grateful for any assistance. We are seeing
automatic files being created out of Excel which we are
not aware of ever having created. All file names have 8
digits of alpha/numbers assigned to them and say that they
are a file type "file". Would anyone know how/what causes
Excel to automatically create these files?

Mike, take this to one of the microsoft.public.excel or .office groups
for a wider audience.
