system restore

I used to have ME on my machine. Now I am running XP. As
long as I have had System Restore available to me, I have
yet to get it to work. When I try to restore my computer,
the program goes through the motions and reboots, then
tells me that it could not restore my computer and that
nothing has been changed. I've looked in the knowledge
and cannot find that anyone else is having this problem.
What am I doing wrong?

Turn off system restore then reboot and turn it back on. This has an effect
of cleaning a corrupt file.
