Defragment attempt Shuts off Computer

If anyone knows HOW to fix this please let me know. I
have HP 7855 came with ME and i upgraded to XP. Now i
cannot defrag in XP.

Larry,

When you state that "defrag attempts shuts off computer", are you saying
that when you defrag, your computer reboots?

If so, can you boot into safe mode and defrag from there?
