Programs randomly close on XP

In our Network on XP SP1, we have an issue where excel,
Groupwise, and several other programs will close without
warning. The PC doesn't crash and you can simply reopen
the program, however when you are typing something and it
closes without saving it is a PITA. ANy help would be
appreciated.
