View Full Version : Time is not accurate

I am having a problem with updating the time on my computer. Every time I
start my computer the time is from 7 to 15 minutes off. Is there a way to
have the time update more often than once a week?

your cmos battery may be dying

It sounds as though the crystal frequency on your MOBO has drifted out of
spec.
How to fix it, I don't know, apart from replacing the MOBO ( which is not an
easy task and can be quite a pain to get things back to normal)
Perhaps someone with more knowledge than me on this subject can come up with
some constructive advice.
I, personally have mine tied to the World Time clock, but don't know if this
will rectify your problem.

To change the frequency of checking the time through the internet:
Start Regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\W32Time\TimeProviders\Ntp
Client
Double-click SpecialPollInterval in the right-hand pane and change the value
in seconds.

NOTE: The value is in seconds. Enter the number of seconds you would like to
update to the correct time. If you want every hour then it would be 3600
seconds, daily woulbd be 86400 seconds.

Open Run, type in Regedit, highlight 'My Computer". Go to File, Backup. Save
the complete Registry to your Desktop.
1. This can be simply restored to its original state by double clicking on
it.

Carefully study the instructions below and follow them explicitly.
If you stuff up. just do step 1. to restore it back to where you started
from.

Updating the interval to the time server will not help you. The problem is
NOT about updating the time! "Philo" answered with the correct solution.
Your cmos battery is failing.
