Problem with Programs

I have encounter a problem with a few of my programs when
i use them. When use Windows Movie Maker, it will often
randomly close itself. Another similar problem is that
when i try and play a DVD the program that i am trying to
play it in exits out. I have tried using other programs
but it still doesn't work. Is there a video setting which
i should try or is there another problem? Please let me
know.
