I have read quite a few posts on this and other Newsgroups that definitely
indicate i am not alone in having a problem getting XP Home to run USB2
properly... Having done the SP1 update and letting XP supply all the drivers
for the PCI add-in card and even the 'bridge' in the enclosure (that came
with software, tho' i didn't use it) etc, i am still stuck with
approximately a 940kbs read speed on the 40 gig HD i have in the USB 2
enclosure on my system....At least that is what a disk benchmark shows(?)
however reliable it, or any of them are...
This is certainly nowhere near the 'advertised' speed of USB 2 and although
it transfers stuff reasonably quick, i can't help but wonder if it will run
the way it is supposed to... I have done everything i could think of and
everythign recommended by people who know more than I ( including deleting
the 'enhanced controller' in system hardware properties tree and allowing on
reboot, to let XP recognize it properly and thus use the SP1 drivers for it)
and my guess is that XP does not properly support USB 2.. The key word here
is 'properly'..
Anyone know what is up with this?
