I'm having lots of problems making a backup of my XP Pro
C: on another hard drive.

I have a second hard drive with 5 NTFS partitions. The
first one is set to be active.

I ran the XP ASR program and built a total backup of all
C: files on the last partition of the back up hard drive.
The process included writing to a floppy disk.

When I tried to start the recovery process to recover to
the first partition of the backup hard drive with the ASR
recovery program, I got a prompt saying the floppy disk
was defective.

Next, I went to the System Tools > Backup or Restore
Wizard and had it recover the backup to the first
partition of the backup hard drive. The recovery process
seemed to work in that the system spent 20 minutes
copying the files.

Next, I unplugged the original primary hard drive and set
the backup hard drive to be the Master. When I attempted
to start the system, I got an error saying that <windows
root>\system32\hal.dll was defective. I reconfigured the
system to boot from the original primary hard disk and
copied the file from c:\windows\system23 to the
\windows\system32 directory on the backup hard drive.
After reconfiguring the backup to be the single master
hard drive, I got the same error.

Thoughts???
