CD backup

Is it safe for me to make a backup copy of my WindowsXP?
I once had a CD chewed up by my CD drive. I don't want
that again.

AFAIK it is safe and legal to make a backup copy of a disk/program for your
own security purposes. I have always done this after getting one of my MS
Office disks damaged and being unable to reinstall it. Actually, I keep all
my disk back-ups (data and programs) in my safe deposit box at the bank!
That way if I suffered fire or theft I can be back in business pretty
quickly.
