I have recently upgraded to Win XP PRo and run a State dos
program. When i run the program the computer come to a
crawl. I have found ntvdm.exe taking 90 to 100% of my cpu
time. AS long as i do not run this program the computer
behaves normally. This is a critical program and tech
support has not been able to help me and are aware of the
problem. He said something about it being compiled with
clipper. As i researched this i keep seeing something
about wow. I do not see this running under ntvdm.exe
Thanks,
Wesley

Hi Wesley,
I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've been having after your upgrade.
Whenever you see an NTVDM.EXE process, that is 32-bit Windows running a
16-bit application in its own process with Windows fooling the 16-bit
application by making it think that it is running in a 16-bit OS. This is
often called WOW (Windows On Windows). Windows XP can run legacy
applications in several different compatibility modes that mimic older
versions of Windows when attempting to run them. Have you tried running
your application in one of these compatibility modes? This is done by
right-clicking on the program's shortcut to bring up it's property page,
clicking on the Compatibility Tab and enabling one of the Compatibility
Modes. I would suggest trying "Windows 95" to start.
Good luck.
