I have recently installed XP Pro on my SONY Vaio PCG-505G
which is a Pentium MMX 199 Mhz processor. It is sluggish
at best when loading and closing, and hesitates
frequently during use, as does MSN 8.0 my dial up
software, will additional RAM make this better (Max is 92
or 96MB), or should I restore to the original system?

Your old Sony notebook computer does not meet the minimum
hardware requirements necessary to run Windows XP. There is
nothing you can do other than to reformat the drive and install
either Windows 98/ME/2000 on it.
Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional

This processor & RAM are below the minimal specs. That is also why it is =
sluggish.
The micro minimum specs called for minimum 233 MHZ (if I recall =
properly).
I'd personally restore to the prior system config.
