View Full Version : Scheduling tasks?

I'm trying to schedule ScanDisk (called Error Checking in
XP) to run regularly on its own in the Task Scheduler.
It doesn't appear as one of the options of programs to be
scheduled. Does anyone know if this can be done and how?
Thanks.

It's called "chkdsk.exe" and it's in the systems32 folder. You can browse
to it. To see the available options for this you can open the command
prompt and type "chkdsk.exe /?". But my computer always wants to reboot in
order to do a check, so I don't know how this would work from the task
scheduler.
There's one command line option that says it forces the volume to dismount
in order to do a check - maybe this means XP will check the disk without
having to reboot . . . or maybe not . . . I don't get what it means by
dismounting.

Dave,
Went to the Tweak page but didn't note any info at the
top related to Error Checking or ScanDisk. Can you be
more specific?
Thanks.

The top of the Tweak page gives you information about what screen you
may get if you have a Anti Virus program running. Ignore that warning.
Page down to line 82 to see the tweak I am referring to.
This tweak will do a scan at startup.
