View Full Version : Slow startup in XP

Hi all
I have been experiencing a very long boot delay with
Windows XP Pro. The problem was evident before upgrading
to SP1. The blue slider bar cycles about 45 times, but
once the welcome screen pops up, the computer runs like a
dream. I have tried bootvis, and although it was
unsuccessfull at speeding up the startup time, it does
tell me that it takes 47 seconds for disk
initialization. Drivers start to load at about 49
seconds into the bootup process, so I figure that it
can't be a driver problem. If anyone can help speed up
the disk initialization, it would be most appreciated.

Wish I could help - I also have similar problems - my XP system takes 5-10
minutes to actually start up - I suspect there may be some adware or similar
spyware - I have installed and removed Norton Internet security 3 times due
to continued Norton error messages. Norton did find some spyware -
uninstalling it has been challenging - I tried some of the fixes
discussed - have still not had much success - any suggestions?

and tried just about everything mentioned and nothing has hepled including
Event Log, bootvis etc etc (If a MVP sees this please help!).

tcpip event and the next event, Service Control Manager. Bootvis also shows
similar gaps in time where nothing appears to be going on. I can't pin down
what is taking so long. Anybody have any ideas?
