View Full Version : Post SP2 install: Safe to delete "Software distrubution" files?

My first installation of SP2 went bad, and I had to uninstall it, then
reinstall from a CD. The failed installation, which I did over the net, left
behind a huge amount of files in a folder inside the Windows folder called
"software distributioin." Is it safe to delete these files, now that I have
completed a successful installation?

thanks
Richard

Will, actually, it seems that it is necessary -- that is, the user MUST
delete the software distribution files after a failed update. I just tried to
install the security patches that came out today, and they failed -- wouldn't
even download. After I deleted the old software distribution files, I was
able to install the patches properly. So those files being left behind
actually cause problems.
