I dont know if you can help but I just resently got hit
by a virus called W32.HLLP.Handy and when I followed all
the directions to remove it I rebooted and I saw a
message that said cannot find boot , when I was back on I
checked it out in my msconfig , and it was gone along
with the system ini and win .ini . they are all blank , I
am not an expert and did not know how to back them up,
but what I want to know if there is a way to
recover, restore, fix. my boot ini???with out having to
reinstall XP??/I went to microsoft and made a boot floppy
(^6 Disks)will this help ??? I went to search for a boot
restore disk and this is what I was giving??, you know

If your machine boots, then look for a hidden boot.ini on the root of
C:.

If your machine won't boot to Windows, then insert the XP CD, configure
your BIOS to boot the CD and select the first repair option. Logon to
Recovery Console and enter the command "bootcfg /rebuild". You don't
have to worry about system.ini or win.ini, they are likely not required.
