Tools and/or Ways To Diagnose Any Problems With Xp Home Version

I would like to know if there are any tool's like
window's 98 has that can check file's and or directory's,
scandisk is now chkdsk,which windows 3.1 had many many
years ago, defrag is a total different look from
window's 98, is there any tools to test memory,video
card and or sound card to make sure that it is function
at it peak for windows xp...I have noticed that windows
XP has increased the performance in my computer, I have a
pentium III 1 Gig processor with 500 meg of memory with a
32 meg geforce nvida card,a Creative Sound Blaster Sound
card....Every now and then,my computer restarts on it's
on, right while my Wife is on the computer playing spades
on line of sometimes when she first start's it
up......Thank you for any imformation that might help.
