Black Screen

I am sending this e-mail for my sister.
She has Windows XP edition that came with the computer.
She has a black screen and can not get rid of it and does
not know how or why it is there,
When she turns the computer off and then back on it goes
through the windows xp screen and then she gets an error
message that reads. " VGA Mode not supported" then it goes
to a black screen. She has high speed internet and can
hear messages pop up but can do nothing about it.

Can someone help or point me in the right direction.
