View Full Version : Auto-logins

Hi,
I have a problem with the auto login feature of both the windows/msn
messenger. When my friends come around to mine, they usually ask me if they
can use msn messenger. But since I dont fancy loggin off mine, I would simply
offer them to use the windows messenger.
Problem is when the windows messenger starts, it automatically logs in using
the .net passport account stored in 'managing my network password' and the
msn messenger will log off in order to let the windows messenger log on.
I tried to use the 'managing my network password' in 'user accounts' in
control panel to remove my .net passport. However, then the msn messenger
will not do auto-logins. (in msn messenger 7.0, this means loggin in simply
by clickin the login button without having to enter my password)
So is there a tweak or sth to disable the auto-login feature in windows
messenger, while reatining the one in msn messenger?
Many thanks :)

What version of Windows Messenger are you using? I just fired mine up and
it did not auto-log me in. It is version 5.0.0482 (not the most recent
version). A simple solution for you maybe to let them use WebMessenger at
http://webmessenger.msn.com. That should prevent you from getting logged
off and still let them log in.

I just upgraded to version 5.1.0639 and I am still able to start it up and
it does not auto log-on. The only settings I can think of are "Run Windows
Messenger when Windows starts" and "Allow Windows Messenger to run in the
background." Make sure both of those are uncheck on the Preferences tab,
there are on mine. I hope that works.
