Hello,

I have a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine. Yesterday my antivirus intercepted
(seemingly successfully) a couple of viruses trying to land on my PC. I
don't know it it is somehow related, but today, after the scheduled
shutdown, Windows refused to start.

The process stops with a Windows logo on a blue background frozen. No user
prompts yet.
My attemtps to start Windows in every possible kind of safe mode failed.
Even in "Safe mode with command prompt" the starting process comes to that
blue screen and freezes.

"Last successful configuration" didn't work either.

I tried to use Recovery Console to find out what's going on, but it asked me
about the administrator password. I entered the password of the only user
with administrator rights there, but was refused.

What are my remaining options?

Thank you very much in advance,
D.P.

At what point you suggest me doing that? When the recovery console starts,
it first asks about choosing Windows installation, in my case it is the only
one on C: drive, and then asks for the administrative password. Three wrong
attempts and you're out. Pressing ENTER is considered as typing a wrong
password...

Could you please clarify your suggestion?

Thanks,
