This problem has occurred twice on my HP laptop:
When booting up it gets to the blue background screen just before it
shows "Welcome to Windows XP" or whatever. Then it just sits there -
no welcome message, nothing. The disk still is accessed occasionally.
Pressing CTRL ALT DEL causes nothing other than another flash of disk
activity. I've tried various recovery techniques, safe mode,
/SOS/BASEVIDEO, recovery console etc to no avail. In recovery console
I did chkdsk /r. The only solution is a reinstall of Windows. It
worked for about a month and then failed again in exactly the same
way. What else can I check?
