I have two primary partitions on my computer. C: for my os
and system files and D: for all my other files. I formated
C: and then loaded XP pro. It asked me where to install
the OS and I chose C: after the install I went to my D:
drive and EVERYTHING was gone...all 50GB. Does anyone know
how I can get back my files. This is all my work from the
last 3 years. This is another reason that I HATE XP with a
passion. However I have no other choice of operating
systems since there are no driver for my computer's
components for 2000 pro.

Calm down, John. The XP setup program will not format a volume unless you
SPECIFICALLY tell it to. So somehow, you MUST have instructed the setup
program to format your data volume.

### NOTE ###
Any advice I give is MY opinion, formed through trial and error or
thoughtful research. There are millions of ways to do things with
computers. YOUR way may be better. But MY OPINION is still MY
OPINION. I have a right to it, just as you have a right to yours.
If I'm wrong, point out my error, then move on. I try hard not
to be wrong, but I miss it sometimes, like we all do. If you don't
like that, perhaps you should move to Nazi Germany,
where all Neo-Facists get their starts.

John;
Try disk Management to be sure the partition is properly recognized:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b309000

Otherwise you possibly did something wrong.
Do not blame it on Windows XP.
Nothing in the normal setup of any OS including Windows XP will touch
data on another partition.

Since your data was so impoortant, I hope you have back-ups!
