System and Facts:
I just added a 200GB WD HD as a slave (CS) on IDE 1 port of Promise
Ultra66 controller card in my 500 MHz PIII system running Win XP Pro
SP1. Master on the IDE is a 40GB WD HD (CS). This machine is for ed2k
d/l and long term storage on my LAN.
Master is basic disk with two equal-sized partitions.
Slave is dynamic with one volume of 137GB.
I switched out Promise Ultra66 for a new Promise TX2 Ultra100
controller card to surmount the ATA66 137GB barrier and gain access to
the remaining capacity of the 200GB disk (approximately 49GB).
Problem:
On boot after installing new controller card BIOS recognizes (with the
earlier card, BIOS only recognized 137GB) the 200BG disk (186GB
capacity) correctly but Disk Management still only recognizes 137GB
dynamic volume on Slave and shows no unallocated space.
Query:
How do I, short of emptying slave of data, converting to basic and
reinstalling disk, gain access to the unusable, inaccessible,
unallocated and unrecognized capacity of dynamic slave from within
Windows XP Pro?
I've read all the relevant KB articles at MS I could find and tried
all options available from within disk management console on the
computer with no luck. Because the 200GB drive is dynamic, partition
magic is useless.
