I'd like to partition my new 30 GB HD but have no
unallocated space on it. How do I change some of the
allocated to unallocated?

Ken;
The basic utility within Windows XP will only work with partitions not
including the OS.
Since you have a single partition, you can not use it.
You need a 3rd party application such as:
