First: Thanks, Andrew for your reply.

Second: DISKPART lists disk 0, the 40GB and Disk 1 the
large problem drive as Disk 1. Disk one appears as 127GB
with the entire 127GB in volume already on the disk. It
does not show any unallocated space.

Selecting Disk 1 and then commanding create simple volume
fails because diskpart reports Disk 1 size at the size of
volume d. Tried EXTEND on volume d with Disk 1 as source
and that fails too.

No joy, but thanks for the input.
