... and I consider this set-up to be the new -paradigm- - 160GB of
external HDD for _way_ under one dollar per gigabyte - and better than
almost *double* the speed of any USB 2.0, FireWire 400, or FireWire 800
that I have ever tested *WITH NO HOST OR DEVICE CONTROLLER PROBLEMS !!!*

Pray tell, Dear Sir, what protocols have been breached ... make your
case, and I will indeed petition the moderator myself to strike down
the entire thread.

I am somewhat of a -"noobie"- here, and can stake scant claim ...
though I note you are but a mere -guest- yourself (unless you have
multiple -personas- for cloaking purposes).

*TO ONE AND ALL:*

The following excerpt - plus the URLs at the bottom - reveals the
current motivations of a retired grandfather who started off in 1973
with cardboard tab cards and reels of magnetic tape used for managing
natural resource data files for government agencies; in 1984, my agency
issued me a Sperry-badged PC assembled by Mitsubishi with an Intel
8086/8088 CPU. In 1999, I retired and not all that long afterward got
hooked on computerized flight simulation strictly as a hobby. I do not
sell _anything_ - either goods or services - although I do buy a lot of
stuff. I must point out that on all forums but this one, I have
uniformly gained praise from both moderators and viewers at large for
pointing out bargains on the Internet and for giving technical tips as
illustrated below. Unraveling USB 2.0 conumdrums - both with host
controllers _and_ device controllers, plus troublesome device bridge
chipsets - ultimately became a passion; so much so that I have spent
many hundreds of dollars on hardware without realizing any gain beyond
the -\"attaboys\"- of folks that I have helped to secure their data.

If you did not mean to post spam, then this was a case of your off-topic
post being misinterpreted. This newsgroup is for technical questions
regarding the Windows XP operating system. When someone posts url's to
various commercial websites not in response to any poster's question,
then the normal interpretation of that post is that it is spam.

Although you may have been using computers for a long time, perhaps you
are unfamiliar with Usenet conventions. Here are some links to help
you:

http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
http://aumha.org/nntp.htm - list of MS newsgroups
microsoft.public.test.here - MS group to test if your newsreader is
working properly
http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm - how to munge email address
http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm - multiposting vs.
crossposting

If you just wish to share your experiences using certain equipment
and/or software, this newsgroup is not the venue for it. I'm sure your
nntp host has many public newsgroups where that sort of message would
not be OT.

response to a member at another forum seeking an alternative to optical
media for storing Norton Ghost 2003 BackUp "disk-to-image" files. This
in turn, however, brings up yet another issue where I genuinely would
value your comments as to its propriety:

Lately, I have taken note of a very useful technique described in this
very forum, copied the text of it _absolutely_ -verbatim-, encased it
in quotes, placed the author's name and forum board of origin therein,
and proceeded to place it in another forum while giving full
attribution. Up to now, I would have presumed this procedure was quite
-"kosher"- - but now, I am not quite so confident after scanning those
links you posted above.

I await your response with considerable humility and hope you have a
gracious exit strategy to offer.
