I have made desktop shortcuts that open Explorer at different levels. One
opens at the C:\ prompt; one opens at C:\My Music. They work fine with one
exception.

When I open Explorer the left panel is displaying the available Tasks menu.
I prefer the left panel to show the folder listings that do show if I click
on the Folder tab at the top of the page.

Any ideas how to make that my default opening using shortcuts? I have tried
setting it up the way I want and holding the CTRL key down while exiting but
it doesn't save that setting.

When I open Explorer using Win key/E or use Start (right click) Explore is
opens the way I prefer. If you open it this way and then click on the
Folders tab at the top it will display the way my shortcuts open Explorer so
you can see what I'm referring to.

Darrel, Darrle, have you changed the Common Tasks setting to Classic View.
In your Explorer window,
Tools
Folder Options
General Tab

If your shortcuts are simply shortcuts to folders (as opposed to =
explorer.exe w/ arguments) AND if you prefer all folders open with the =
folder pane displayed, then change the default action for folders to =
explore:

Folder Options -> File Types -> hilite 'Folder' -> click 'Advanced' -> =
hilite 'explore' -> click 'Set Default' -> 'OK' your way out.
