View Full Version : Word 97 not responding

I am having issues with my Word 97. I have XP windows version. Often, like
today, I cannot open my Word 97 program nor any of my Word documents no
matter how recent they are. What is going on and how can I stop this from
happening?
I printed off the "How to Perform a clean boot in Windows XP" because I
heard that may help, but I'm hesitant doing that unless I receive that advice
from someone more professional in the computer area... Thanks!

Do a Disk Cleanup.
Then go to Start, Run, type in
winword.exe -a
press enter. Word will open with default settings reinstated. Exit Word
and see if it works now.

If Steve's suggestion works, and it should, but Word still gives you trouble
the next time you want to use it, do a search for all copies of "normal.dot"
(the basic blank page template for Word) and delete them. The next time you
start Word it will build a new copy of "normal.dot". File corruption in
the normal.dot file is the most common cause of Word problems.
