View Full Version : XP won't boot past posts

I just swapped motherboards and changed master HDs. After reinstalling XP,
Norton won't run properly, so I ran a live update, which updated tons.
Afterwards it asked for a reboot, so I did it. Now, I can't get past the
initial posts, stuck at post code 50. Emergency disks/CDs won't work, nor
will F8. What now?

As Rich said, you need to look at all your connections. If you computer
won't get through the POST, this has nothing to do with your operating
system or any software on the machine (like Norton). You have hardware
problems. Strip the machine down to the motherboard and video card and
start troubleshooting. Don't forget to include the power supply in your
troubleshooting steps.

I found the problem. Apparently the chaintech mobo that I have has issues
with usb on reboot, periodically. I looked up post code 50 and it said it is
about initializing usb. I disconnected all usb devices, rebooted, and it
worked.

See? It *was* hardware! Thanks for taking the time to post the solution.
It will help others who may have the same problem.
