Explorer is slow to browse

As per Bryan Smith's problem with a slow browser I have a
similar problem but slighty different. My browser is
really slow when I am browsing to open or save a file
within a software program. This occurs both over the
network or within the same drive. it happens with any
program...AutoCad, Word, excel, you name it. However my
explorer browser operates with regular speed so I'm stuck
with what could be the problem. Would appreciate some
advise.
