why do my games shut down while palying them and goto desktop??

I am seriously MAD I will be playing my sims or diablo
and or storng hold and BOOM the screen goes black and
kicks me off the game and brings me back to the desktop.
What the heck is going on and can some one PLEASE help me
please please. this is a major bummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I
think i will go back to win 98 it was so much easier then
this windows XP

It sounds like a driver or hardware issue.
Make sure you have the latest Windows XP drivers for all hardware
especially sound and video.
Open case to ensure all fans are working.
Power supply always has a fan, video card and CPU sometimes have a
fan.
Ensure all vents are clear and case is open to good ventilation on all
sides, especially front and back (no cabinet with a closed back)

How much memory (hopefully at least 256mb)

Was it an upgrade to Windows XP?
Did you check here #3 Upgrade Advisor to be sure you computer is ready
for windows XP:

Does this apply:
Some computers have issues with 811493 causing a slowdown, others do
not.
The issue seems to be a conflict with Windows Update 811493 and
antivirus applications.
Similar issues reported with McAfee, Norton, EZ Trust and possibly
others.
Uninstall 811493 from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs.
If a warning comes up about other applications, ignore it.
Uninstalling through Add/Remove Programs is far better than System
Restore to remove an application or fix.
Microsoft has stated they are working on the cause, so hopefully we
will get some definitive solution real soon.

Otherwise:
Run an updated virus scan.
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
