this version of windows is a sad thing it is NOT user
friendly and is NOT easy to utilize as far as
maintainance it royally bites and makes me sorry i spent

Return Windows XP for a refund as long as you have not had the
superior OS for more than 30 days.

Otherwise if you have issues, if you state them, you are likely to get
help.

Try this:
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

I have had a Compaq Presario 2700EA laptop since December 2001. Never had
any problem with it whatsoever. No problems with WinXP either. Must be an
attitude...

Sorry to disagree with you, but I've been using Windows since Windows/386, and
Win XP is actually the best version so far.

If you don't like it, feel free to go back to DOS...

Uh oh, you said the "C" word.
That is probably where your problems have started.
XP is a very good, stable operating system. Do some research and take the
time to learn some of it's ins and outs, and get rid of some of the garbage
that Compaq computer is probably loading into memory at startup, and you may
be suprised.
