Just so everyone knows, I have a Compaq Laptop with
Windows XP that I updated with "813489 Cumulative Patch
for Windows Explorer 6 Service Pack 1" and then I had
trouble with my Norton Firewall. After this XP patch, my
Internet bandwidth was slow as can be with Norton
Firewall enabled, but was fast (as usual) with it
disabled. After tons of troubleshooting and chasing my
tail, I resolved this problem simply by uninstalling
Norton System Works and Norton Personal Firewall,
defraging the HD, then reinstalling them both. Don't ask
me what it accomplished, but my Bandwidth had dropped to
90 kbps (and that's with Cable Modem!) and now, after
this fix, it's back up to 1400 kbps! Hope this helps
