System Restore

I have read and understand that you can turn off system
restore in Restore Settings. My question is this, all of
my restoral points are unable to successfully restore any
of the points. If I turn off system restore how can I go
back, say to January or even December of last year. I
need help in understanding how I can potentially get my
computer back to the way it was when I bought it, last
December.

Robert;
The Restore Points ore deleted when System Restore is turned off.
If the Restore Points are not there or do not work, you can not
Restore to that time.
System Restore is not intended for and will not keep data for the life
of the computer.
The length of time Restore Points go back depends on many things, your
personal settings, computer usage, hard drive space etc.

If you want to perform a Clean Installation of Windows XP (destroys
all data):
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:

Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.
