Slow to open to the desktop MORE

Further to my earlier posting I forgot...It will not shut
down, it simply remains frozen on the Shutting Down
Screen.
I have to shut off power manually.

Hi, Malcolm,

If you have service hotfix update number 811493 installed on your computer,
go to Control Panel, Add/Remove, highlight it and click Remove.
This had been a thorn in almost everyone's hide because it slows down your
system. Microsoft is working on a fix for it.

As to shutting down,
Go to Control Panel, and double click Power Options, click the APM tab and
click to Enable Advanced Power Management Support.
