System File Checker can't find SP1
SFC only sees my original WinXP Pro CD.
It won't even enter into a dialogue over where SP1
is located and insists I install the 'Service
Pack 1 CD" - which I never had as I installed SP1
from an "Official" Windows XP magazine CD - even if
I shove this in either of my CD/DVD drives it still
keeps on bloody asking! No 'browse' dialogue, just
'retry' or 'cancel'...
Is there some registry hack to point SFC to the
SP1?
Cheers,
Ade

Ade;
Check in c:\windows
Is there a file called "ServicePackFiles"?
That is what it is looking for.
Some people delete this file to save space.
It is OK as long as it is not needed as in this case by SFC.
Reinstall SP1 if that file is not there.

Thanks for replying, JJ
Yup, C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
is there all right. All 274 MB of it.
Should I still reinstall SP1? And won't
that overwrite any hotfixes I've downloaded?
Cheers,
Ade

Ade;
Reinstalling SP1 should cause no ill effects.
None of your updates should need to be reinstalled, check and install
in either case.
