Hi!

I have Windows XP Home Edition with the service pack 1
installed and all critical & windows updates from the
Windows Update page.

Yesterday I tried to move one big file to another
folder, and XP stopped responding. So, I reboted and the
file was still there, but the free space was decreased by
700MB.

I ran CHKDSK in command prompt. It reported the
following errors:

"CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the
volume bitmap.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these."

So, I ran chkdsk /f and it required reboot to run in
exclusive mode. In that mode it didn't find any errors
and didn't correct any errors.

Can anyone help me, and tell me how I can correct the
free space problem?

Best regards,
Martin
