msimn.exe hanging after XP crash

My Dell which has XP home crashed. Now when I go into
Outlook Express, I can see the list of messages but the
program doesn't respond and it shows the msimn.exe taking
99% of the processor. All other programs seem to be
running okay. Any ideas? It looked like trying to
reinstall IE and OE is tricky and there is risk of
messing up registry settings. I can't deinstall them.
