whenever i copy and burn a file it ends up being a read-only file and i can
not save changes. what am i doing wrong

1. You are using cd-rw media (?)
2. Have you formatted it?

If you are using the XP CD copying facility, it's useless. You can only
overwrite, not delete - except the entire disc. Buy decent software. I
recommend Ahead Nero/InCD.
