I just had a desktop do the darndest thing.
I just replaced a desktop system and when I took the old system to hook it
back up to remove any extra files the user may have left on it, it promptly
died. So after some coaxing I finally managed to do a system restore on the
system to about two days before. When the system came back up everything
seemed ok until I went for the users documents and settings this is when I
noticed some odd things.
First off the directory it was using for the profile was no longer simply
[username] it was now [username]~TMP[#]. Which as you might expect is not
right.
Secondly there were now a fairly extensive list of generic files that appear
to actually be the true user folders as they are simply called by [username].
So, as I am still attempting to recover user documents and settings I need
to know how it might be possible to force a change from a File with no
extensions into a Folder. Is this even possible?
