XP Hanging

XP hangs on start-up where the screen reads: "Windows is starting up".
Loads successfully less than 2% of the time. Any ideas? System is 3 months
old.

As an experiment, see what happens in Safe Mode.
Start tapping on F8 when you get the black screen.
