Error number 80040706

Can someone help when I install some programs on my newly installed windows XP
Yhe setup wizard hangs then i get this
Unhandled Exception
Error Number:0x80040706
Description: Object reference not set
Setup wil now terminate

What are the programs that cause the setup wizard to hang?

Programs like serif photo plus 8
Quicken Release 2
Probably more but i havent tryed yet
All meant to be XP compatible
